Last night I went to Slimelight to check out the visiting LA fetish club Perversion. On the whole it was a fairly good night out, although more for the mix of music than any other factor.
Slimelight has three dancefloors, which really allows a good range of music to be played. The dancefloors were roughly split out into industrial, goth/80s and techno, which kept me happy for all the bits of the night where I had the energy for dancing. I happen to like heavy metal and industrial music and it's rare that I get a chance to bounce around to it at a fetish event - it was much appreciated!
The venue layout also allows you to walk around by various routes, which kept me entertained for a large portion of the night (I just like people-watching really, and walking around gives you a constant stream of new people to watch).
The event wasn't strict dress code, although I did see people being turned away on the door as I was turning up. Goths are generally fairly well dressed anyway, so visually things were doing quite well. Perversion had brought some professional dancers with them (I think they were pros anyway, if not they were bloody good amateurs!) and the pole dancing in the downstairs dancefloor area was drawing enough admirers (read, blokes with their mouths hanging open) to block up the dancefloor from time to time. Very impressive, the things those girls can do with their thigh muscles
The venue was definitely crowded, but due to the layout you could generally find somewhere quiet and cool to sit and catch your breath in between dancefloor visits. Soft drinks weren't outrageously priced for a London club - Oasis at £1.50 a bottle and Red Bull at £2 a can.
Although promoted with a fetish theme, this wasn't really much of a fetish night in my opinion - there was no sexual or BDSM play going on that I noticed anywhere in the venue, and although there were a couple of whipping posts, spanking benches, etc, they were generally being used as seats. Asking around the venue's regulars gave me the impression that the only real difference tonight was the amount of people attending.
I got tired and left at about 5am (I think it finished at 6am), and people were still going strong on the upstairs dancefloor as I collected my coat and headed off. I think I might nip along to Slimelight again even if it's not billed as a fetish night, as it was good fun anyway...
