Severe weather warning! Weblog

This a warning to anyone booking our dungeon/cottage accomodation that we do, in line with the rest of the country, suffer from the vagaries of British weather from time to time.

We recently took a two day booking from a couple, with an option to extend their visit for a further night. They arrived sunday afternoon amid a howling gale that was also, according to the weather forecast, affecting much of the rest of the country. After showing them the cottage accomodation and doing the safety tour of the dungeon, we left them to settle in and have fun.

Imagine our surprise, therefore, when the phone rang at around mid-day and our guests informed us that they were on their way home. Apparently one of them was not very well on the sunday night, but the main reason given for the early departure was that it was very windy on the sunday night and their sleep was badly interrupted. While we sympathise on both counts, it did seem rather surprising that they should cut short their visit after travelling the best part of 300 miles to get here. Silly thing was, by the time they called us, the wind had dropped considerably.

They were kind enough to leave some cash which equated to one night hire of dungeon and cottage. However, it was obviously too late for us to get a replacement booking for the second night they had booked, nor for the extra night which they had asked us to keep open as an option. Maybe we should insist on people paying in full upon arrival in future.

We could maybe have understood it if the wind was so bad that it affected their dungeon play. However, the dungeon is pretty well soundproofed and it is extremely unlikely that they would have been able to hear the wind while in there.

So, to anyone wishing to book our premises, we regret that we are unable to accept responsibility for the weather! The only way to guarantee the weather you want is to bring it with you!!

Our TV debut Weblog

A few weeks ago we mentioned that we were considering an approach from a local TV Company who wanted to include The Edge in a documentary.

We had previously turned down about a dozen advances from TV Companies, including offers to appear with Louis Theroux and Jo Guest. The main reason we have been so wary about previous offers is because they all seemed to be approaching it from the sensationalist point of view and would not, in our opinion, have done us or the scene any favours.

We therefore had serious reservations about the latest approach, but were prepared to speak to them and give them a chance to show that they wanted to approach it from a more serious angle.

Their initial approach was promising. They wanted to feature the courses we run for beginners and seemed genuinely interested in having us explain what BDSM was about from OUR point of view, as opposed to the general run of the mill bad press that we usually get. They also seemed very keen for us to put across the consensual nature of BDSM and to show that safety was a paramount consideration.
So, we took a deep breath and decided to take the plunge with them.

On monday evening we were descended upon by six members of the TV crew. We had a short chat over tea and coffee before adjourning to the local pub for a meal. We felt very at ease with them. The presenter, Jojo was a larger than life figure and seemed very keen, as did the rest of the crew, that we ended up with a serious look at what it is we do and that the end result included the message that we wanted to put across. We went to bed that night feeling very encouraged that we were doing the right thing and even managed to persuade most of the butterflies inhabiting our tummies that the shoot planned for the next day would go well.

After breakfast, the crew disappeared a while to shoot Jojo approaching The Edge. Then our kitchen was transformed into a film set to show him being greeted by MsDemmie who outlined the beginners course. She gave him a checklist of BDSM play for him to peruse and showed him to his accomodation in the cottage.

The next location showed Jojo laying on his bed reading out loud from the checklist. We somehow managed to control our laughter off camera as proceeded to go through the whole list from A to Z, making various humourous comments as he did so.

The next scene showed Jojo's introduction to the dungeon. His expressive face was a picture as he opened the door to our pride and joy and he managed to portray the 'wow factor' that we see from so many of our guests upon getting their first look at the dungeon, perfectly. Then it was on to the bondage bed as MsDemmie went through the contents of the newbies kit that we offer in association with sensualsting.com . They discussed various items from the kit, MsDemmie explaining what each piece was used for. Jojo was brilliant throughout and managed to fit in all the right questions regarding safety. He also was able to lead MsDemmie into explanations about the consensuality of the scene and safewords.

Next stop was the sling and as Jojo reclined, swinging back and forth, he again asked all the right questions which allowed MsDemmie to put the message, that we wanted to convey, across.

Finally it was on to the wheel. Jojo was a little uneasy about being put on the wheel, so he asked for a volunteer from the crew. A young lady, who was very nervous the night before, was, by now, happy to volunteer. After being strapped tightly to the wheel and being spun round a few times, Jojo said that it was time to take her down. However, MsDemmie had noticed a glint in the girl's eye and suggested that she was begging to go round for a couple of more spins. The girl confirmed this by excitedly shouting 'Faster, Faster!'
So the wheel was turned round several more times at an ever increasing pace, which was where they finished the shoot.

The shoot was an extremely positive experience. The crew were friendly and polite throughout and went out of their way to ensure that we were happy with everything they filmed. They were especially keen that we included safety tips such as not to use coloured or scented candles for wax play and not using tights, which can be difficult to untie in an emergency, for bondage.

We had been told that the actual finished article would probably only take up about 4 and a half minutes of airtime. However, before she left, the Director said that there was no way that it could be cut down so short and said that it would be ten minutes at least.

Our TV debut wil be featured in February or March next year as part of a local series entitled The Nether Regions. Unfortunately it will only be shown in the South West region.

Dungeon tales Weblog

The Edge is a dungeon and playroom based in Devon. We thought it would be interesting to share some of the more amusing moments as well as some of the more frustrating ones. There will also be occassional rants about the delights if country living and the hazzards of running a BDSM based business and commentary on some of the 'offers' we receive.
We have just suffered some of the worst gales of the year lost some of the shutters on the house and tiles of the roof.
Our weekend guests managed to drop the keys for the cottage outside in the gales at 3.00 am on Saturday night ......
So do we get floodlights or not ....... do we want floodlights coming on at all hours, and do people wish to be floodlit in all their rubber and leather gear?
Maybe just some more sets of keys might be a better answer.
