Club Rub (17th March)Review: Event

After spending an inordinate amount of time at work and with the propect of another killer week including an overnight stint I was very much looking forward to spending a night at a pervy place. That is if I could stop yawning anyway! Given yet another bad throw of the dice in my friend's current streak of ill fortune I wound up going to Club Rub by myself and stepping out of Monument tube station at 11:40pm on the Saturday night. I was worried that I wouldn't get in, despite having purchased advance tickets.

Strolling along from the tube station I got to see the momument (no I don't know what it's a momument to either), which is impressively tall and impressively golden at the top, especially when lit up at night. The event was held at a small night club in the heart of Londons' financial district, within 5 minutes stroll of St Pauls Cathedral and that funky new millenium bridge.

The night club was a basement affair in an L shape, with a larger brightly light room at the top of the L. The dance floor was unfortunately on the long axis of the L, which meant constanlty being interrupted when dancing by the flow of people from one bar to the other. Drinks were expensive and the music was pretty poor all night, though on the plus side they where showing a particular good film on the monitors. I won't bother going into too much detail about the venue as Club Rub are relocating, so watch this space for details as I will be attending the new venue soon.

Despite the fact I wasn't particular impressed with the venue I did have a good time at the event, due to the outgoing and friendly crowd. There were a number of people very obviously enjoying themselves despite the high level of ambient light and the small selection of frames were occupied for the night by people who enjoy the sound of a good slap.

After spending an enjoyable evening I took in the cool morning air on a hour long trek across London to Euston station where I had to wait nearly two hours for a train. A bit of a downside to an otherwise fun evening and I don't recommend public transport to anybody traveling to London for a night out. Espcially on a saturday as the tubes and trains don't start running till later on a sunday morning.
