Oh, are you an American?

By Denny on Wed 12 Jun 2002 at 21:39 | I asked because 'fanny' is used in America to refer to what we in England would call a 'bottom', whereas the word 'fanny' is used in England to refer to the female genitalia, which wouldn't seem to have much to do with that dress...
I don't see how you managed to construe an insult out of that question anyway, unless you were really deliberately looking for something to take offense at? In fact, I can't see a way to manage it even then.
As this is a UK based site, I think it's fair to assume people are speaking English rather than American, unless they state otherwise, so it confused me when this post didn't. Okay?
Regards,
Denny

By Anonymous on Fri 30 May 2003 at 00:30 | Just checked the on-line dictionary and the term 'fanny' is referance as
Main Entry: fan·ny
Pronunciation: 'fa-nE
Function: noun
Inflected Form(s): plural fannies
Etymology: perhaps from Fanny, nickname of Frances
Date: 1928
1 : BUTTOCKS
2 slang British : VULVA
Hence, when you are talking about english, it is in its pure form without slang. We speak English in America, England and Australia. There is no such thing as speaking American. American is not a language.

By Denny on Wed 12 Jun 2002 at 21:41 | ...you did make a comment about teeth, so that wasn't a very clever bit of 'holier than thou' superiority really, was it?
I don't care if you're American, English, or Russian, you're still an idiot.

Denny

By Denny on Wed 12 Jun 2002 at 21:44 | Only your comments (and articles) have gone from 'I just found this site' to rather more standard promotional material.
Not that I mind you posting in support of your own website/shop, but I think people will be a little cynical (or at least I would) about buying stuff from someone who initially portrayed themselves as a customer of a website but now turns out to be its owner...

Denny

By Anonymous on Wed 22 Oct 2003 at 22:11 | it could be called a fanny skirt if the bird wearing it has long droopy flaps, like spaniels ears. If you unzipped from the back then you could see her fanny! makes sense to me.
